| Match Preview - 2011 Season, Round 15 - H Crusaders |
Saints marched onto another Challenge Cup Quarter Final last weekend after thrashing Featherstone Rovers 70-0. Royce Simmons was delighted with the defensive effort and to nil any side is a good effort. In games gone by we would have been strolling to victory then switch off and let in a few tries towards the end but full credit to the players for keeping their concentration for the full eighty.
The Saints will looking to maintain their 100% historical record against the Crusaders this Friday, after five wins out of five over the last two and a half years. This Friday's should be a good game with the Welsh outfit having imrpoved since our last meeting, beating Huddersfield and coming close to also beating Leeds in a Challenge Cup tie at Headingley until a late sending off proved costly. Victory is crucial for Saints after two games without a win and two points should set us up for next week’s big game against Leeds who are on a good run themselves.
The 19 man squads have been named and are as follows:
St Helens:
1. Paul Wellens, 2. Ade Gardner, 3. Michael Shenton, 4. Sia Soliola, 5. Francis Meli, 7. Kyle Eastmond, 8. Josh Perry, 9. James Roby, 10. James Graham, 12. Jon Wilkin, 15. Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook, 18. Matty Ashurst, 19. Andrew Dixon, 20. Jonny Lomax, 21. Shaun Magennis, 22. Jamie Foster, 25. Lee Gaskell, 28. Thomas Makinson, 29. Scott Hale.
Crusaders:
1.Clinton Schifcofske, 4. Vince Mellars, 5. Stuart Reardon, 6. Michael Witt, 7. Jarrod Sammut, 8. Ryan O'Hara, 9. Lincoln Withers, 10. Mark Bryant, 11. Hohepa (Hep) Cahill, 12. Jason Chan, 13. Frank Winterstein, 15. Jordan James, 16. Ben Flower, 17. Rhys Hanbury, 18. Elliot Kear, 19. Lloyd White, 22. Richard Moore, 23. Peter Lupton, 27. Jordan Tansey.
Kick-Off: 8pm
Referee: Ben Thaler
Stadium: Stobart, Widnes
There has finally been some positive news on the injury front! Jonny Lomax, Lee Gaskell, Kyle Eastmond, Andrew Dixon and Josh Perry all return and all five are more than likely to play according to coach, Royce Simmons. Great news then and once Tony Puletua and Leon Pryce come back we’ll look a formidable outfit.
Dangermen:
Crusaders have very talented half-backs in Witt, Sammut and Hanbury so they are the key players for them. Another one who’s impressed me, offensively, when I’ve watched them is the full back, Clinton Schifcoske. He hasn’t look that great defensively though, so we can look to get some joy in that aspect. All in all, Crusaders have got it in them to come and score points but I think we’ll have too much for them and we’ll want to go joint top again should Leeds beat Warrington.
Weather Forecast:
BBC Forecast have it down as being a dry day so that’s good with us getting our flair players back. Match time temperature is forecase to be around 11 degrees.
Prediction:
St Helens 52-22 Crusaders
